  • You must first attend a class with a certified instructor, the certification is with the state of NCDOJ we must also hold a certification with the NRA or USCCA.

    It is an 8-hour class (this is required by state law), we do everything the same day and typically one Saturday each month. After the class you’ll be given a paper certification. (it’s fancy)

    You then contact the Sheriff dept. in the county you live in and fill out a packet. (most do this online and some will give you a copy if you visit them)

    After this, you will make an appointment. you’ll have your fingerprints done and all paperwork you have completed will be turned over to the dept. including the cert that you received from your instructor.

    once all checks have been made and approved, you’ll receive your permit!

  • Your CCH permit will be linked to your license plate and will be in your records with the sheriff’s dept. It is not linked to anything else at this point in time.

  • Short answer is no.

    I like to describe it this way. You are held by all the same laws of “the use of deadly force” even if you don’t know them.

    Not knowing any better (being ignorant) is not an excuse and your prosecutor and the jury will not see that in a good light.

    Think of driving a car without a license and also never knowing the rules of the road as well. The cops are still going to arrest you even if you had no clue you were breaking the law.

  • I prefer brand new shooters actually. We can start with a strong foundation and keep building from there. Reason behind this is, you don’t have years of bad habits to break.

    I’ve taken a new shooter and had him really competing within a year.

  • Yes, both a written test and a shooting qualification. This is the standard set by the state:

    20 question written test, some are true/false and a few are multiple choice.

    The shooting qualification is a minimum of 30 rounds from the 3, 5, and 7 yard marks.

    Each instructor is free to designate his or her own test/qualification beyond the minimum. Many make it more difficult than the standard to ensure you are proficient and knowledgeable.

    We can show you all the principles, but at the end of the day, YOU have to put the time and the work in to make it happen.

Cancellation Policy:

All course and registration fees are non-refundable. In the event that a student is unable to attend a course and provides at least 72 hours' notice, the fee may be transferred to another student or applied to a future course, where possible.

Transfers must be declared within six months of the missed session. One transfer is allowed per student per calendar year. "No shows" and cancellations within 72 hours of the scheduled course will forfeit all transfer opportunities.

If severe weather is forecasted but conditions remain safe for travel and training, the class will continue as planned. Students who feel uncomfortable traveling may request to reschedule for a future class date at no additional cost.

Sometimes unforeseen circumstances arise and we may have to move a class date or move to a different location for the classroom. Students may be moved to a future class or receive a refund if the future class doesn’t fit their schedule.

We communicate important information about classes via email; while we make every attempt to contact students if something happens,we are not responsible for attendance issues due to using old email address or unread emails.
